The exhibition reflects the Triennial’s desire to bring some of the brightest achievements of the Bulgarian poster out of oblivion and present them properly. The Bulgarian stage and visual culture comes to life and artistic solutions and finds that are universal and relevant become known through the works of 8 remarkable poster masters. Moreover, the project content is selected in such a way as to encourage new generations of artists toward more experiments, toward bold and unexpected metaphors and grotesques. It shows the richness of the subtext, the Aesopian language, the second plan, all of these being merits inherent in the art of the authors presented.
POSTERS & MEMORY shortens the distance between generations and makes iconic examples of poster art visible and recognizable.
POSTERS & MEMORY is an exhibition and research project focused on authors who laid the foundation of the modern Bulgarian poster, poster artists famous to the older generation and almost unknown to the younger one. Notwithstanding their works create the history of the Bulgarian and European poster, their public presence is scarce. The project authors revive iconic achievements through authentic examples and testimonies guided by the conviction that a quality poster, this many-sided synthesis among different arts is always relevant.
The project fills a series of deficits, including that of the dead museum of applied arts. The project as part of the 10th Triennial’s program receives a wide real and virtual platform for distribution and continues as a traveling exhibition.
